Glass Jars for Sale
Whether you need a jar for canning, making own homemade
gifts or just for decorations, you have a wide Varity of
both shapes and sizes to choose from. Glass jars are for
sale in most large chain stores like Target, Wal-Mart in the
kitchen or organizations department. Glass canning
jars are so popular that grocery stores and even some drug
stores even carry them now. It all really depends on what
you need the glass jar for where to look to buy one.
Types and styles of glass jars that you can buy
What makes a "jar" a jar? Jars are a specific type of
container that usually have a wide mouth and small neck (if
any). Depending on if you are a literalist like one of my
daughters, the term "jar" can be used as a broad term as
basically a glass container for storage. So we have included
information with that in mind and included in addition to
jar information other glass containers as well.
Amber Jars-Glass jars that have a pigment or dark
color, used to preserve the quality of light sensitive
products like essential oils and extracts.
Clear Straight-Glass jars that are both clear and
straight (not decorative usually), used most often to store
non food items.
Faceted Jar-Decorative glass jars with flat edges
around perimeter, often used for candles and food storage.
Glass Bottle-Storage container with long neck,
usually for liquid storage.
Hex Jars- Hexagon shaped glass jars, commonly used
for candles and jelly.
Jug-Glass container with handle and some type of
cap or lid. Commonly used to store liquids.

Fun ways to recycle or reuse glass jars
One of my favorite ways to re-use glass jars is to make
outdoor patio lanterns. We line the path to the
outdoor cooking area with the jars that have little tea
light candles in them. Sometimes we hang them up too.
This looks so cool because each jar (that we have anyways)
is different. Making the hanging jars is very easy, you
simply wash and dry the jars well. Then wrap a piece of wire
around the neck of the jar bring it down and across twice so
the wires criss-cross on the bottom. Then bring the wire
back up and wrap around the first wire at the neck to form a
loop to hang with. I would not hang a heavy candle unless
you use more sturdy wire (you don't want the jar to break if
it falls).
Ideas for gifts in a jar
-Make a jar full of the person's favorite candy, with ribbons
coming out of the top like it's overflowing with their name
on a tag, and place the jar on their desk before they arrive
to work.
-Perhaps you have a secret recipe that everyone loves, you
could measure out the ingredients and decoratively layer
them into the jar. Make some personal labels to put on them
with your name and the recipe with the remainder of the
ingredients and instructions. This will give the gift a
personal touch, they can make the secret recipe and you
won't have to tell the secret.
-Different size jars would make a nice canister set, glue
some nice fabric to the lids, for more decoration. Or have
them for your special teas that you like to drink, a jar
would keep them fresher, longer.
-Maybe you could get some different colored jars, you could
make piggy banks for kids. And you could ask them to help.
They could pick out their own decorations to put on it.
-Or food day at work, get a big jar with a handle, decorate
it and fill it with homemade cookies or brownies.
-If someone you know likes pickled eggs or sausage, you
could use your jars to pickle some eggs, sausage or whatever
you like, and put them on the counter, or maybe in a bar
area. It would also be great for when everyone comes over to
watch a game, or a nice cook-out. Or you may have something
in your garden you'd like to pickle for salads or a certain
recipe. Pickle them and put it in the refrigerator, and
you'll always have it on hand, and it's homemade. -Lets not forget the things around the house, for instance,
the snacks for the family room, when everyone is going to
watch a movie. Put a couple jars of snacks on the stand &
let them get what they want and don't have to keep running
back to the kitchen. When the movie is over you can just put
the lid on and your done, whatever is in it will stay fresh.
-Perhaps you would like to send a care package to someone
going to school, or a friend that moved away. Find a nice
jar that you know they can use for something else, and fill
it with some homemade goodies. When the jar is empty, they
could use it for something else. But they'll look at the jar
and always think of you and the care that you sent them. No matter what your needs are, from nuts and bolts for the
garage, to that special recipe, you can always find a jar
that fits your needs.
